The Korean maker is also putting in a vast, openable panoramic roof and aims to raise the stakes in the areas of interior quality and comfort to give a more expensive feel. Reversing cameras and other high-tech accessories are mooted.

Arguably the world’s fastest sports utility vehicle has zoomed out of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations stable. The Range Rover Sport SVO is powered by a specially tuned 542bhp 5-litre V8 linked to an eight-speed automatic gearbox that propels it from rest to 60mph in 4.5 seconds and up to a top speed limited to 162mph, making it the fastest Range Rover ever.

It has also set a record at Germany’s Nurburgring by lapping the infamous Nordschleife circuit in 8 minutes 14 seconds — the fastest ever time for an SUV.

Vintage cars will be to the fore at next month’s Goodwood Revival event.

It’ll celebrate the anniversary of the discovery of Sir Jackie Stewart, aged 24, at Goodwood in 1964 — sparking half a century of motorsport success for the three-time Formula 1 world champion.

The festival’s host, the Earl of March, will also be marking 75 years since the establishment of RAF Westhampnett — the name given to the Goodwood Aerodrome during WWII when his family gave it to the RAF to aid the war effort.

The Goodwood mess will carry a wartime theme, with visitors entering through a garrison to be surrounded by bunting, sandbags, ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ posters and the sound of air-raid sirens.

A spokesman said: ‘Westhampnett was best known as a Spitfire base and it was from here that Douglas Bader flew his final sortie.

‘To commemorate this, the 2014 Revival will feature an amazing dynamic display of military cars, vans, trucks, jeeps, tanks, aircraft and personnel.’

The move completes a project started in 1963 to build 18 such racing-oriented cars — but only 12 were ever finished.

Potential customers at Pebble Beach, California, have their chance to see the first of the new E-Types in action this week.
